Facials + Retinol Booster
Your Facial’s Secret Weapon for a Skin Reboot!

Professional Facial Boosters: How Kori Customizes a Facial for More Targeted Results
Sometimes you want a facial simply because your skin—and you—need some attention. Other times, you want your facial to focus more specifically on a skin concern.
That is where a professional facial booster can change the treatment.
At Athame Aesthetics in Murray, Utah, clients can request a professional booster as an add-on to their facial. Rather than turning every facial into the same aggressive treatment, the booster allows Master Esthetician and Esthetics Educator Kori to shift the service from a primarily pampering facial toward a more clinical, results-focused facial customized around the condition of the client’s skin.
But there is one important distinction:
You may request the booster upgrade. Kori selects the booster.
Athame Aesthetics currently offers three professional IMAGE Skincare I ENHANCE booster options:
- I ENHANCE Kojic Acid Facial Enhancer
- I ENHANCE Plant Stem Cell Facial Enhancer
- I ENHANCE Retinol Facial Enhancer
They are not three different versions of the same treatment, and one is not automatically stronger or better than the others.
Each gives Kori another professional tool for customizing your facial according to what your skin actually needs.
What Is a Facial Booster?
A professional facial booster is a concentrated treatment enhancer that can be incorporated into a facial to make the treatment more targeted.
The easiest way to think about it is this:
A traditional customized facial can focus on cleansing, hydration, exfoliation, relaxation, skin maintenance, and supporting an overall healthy-looking complexion.
Adding a professional booster gives Kori the ability to place greater emphasis on a particular cosmetic concern.
Depending on the booster selected, that might include concerns such as:
- uneven-looking pigmentation;
- visible sun damage;
- dull or uneven-looking skin;
- rough texture;
- visible signs of aging;
- fine lines;
- congestion; or
- skin that would benefit from a different type of professional rejuvenating support.
This is why Athame Aesthetics considers the booster an add-on rather than an automatic part of every facial.
Not every client needs a booster, and not every skin condition should be treated with the same one.
From Pampering Facial to Results-Focused Facial
There is nothing wrong with booking a facial because you want to relax, refresh your skin, and leave feeling cared for.
That is a perfectly legitimate reason to get a facial.
But sometimes a client comes to Athame with a more specific question:
Can we do more for this discoloration?
Can we focus on the texture I have been noticing?
My skin is changing as I get older. Is there something more targeted we can add?
I want the relaxation of a facial, but I also want the treatment to focus more intentionally on my skin goals.
That is where the booster option becomes valuable.
Adding a booster allows Kori to move the facial toward a more clinical, results-focused treatment without abandoning the customization that should happen in a professional facial.
The booster does not replace the facial.
It changes what Kori can ask the facial to accomplish.
Why Doesn’t the Client Simply Choose a Booster From a Menu?
Because skincare ingredients should be selected according to the condition of the skin—not according to which ingredient has the most impressive name.
A client may arrive convinced that retinol is exactly what she needs because she has heard about its anti-aging benefits.
But if Kori sees significant sensitivity, irritation, dehydration, barrier disruption, or another reason that retinol is not the best choice that day, a different booster may make considerably more sense.
Another client may be primarily concerned about visible discoloration or uneven tone, making the Kojic Acid Facial Enhancer a more logical consideration.
Someone else may have completely different concerns and be better suited to the Plant Stem Cell Facial Enhancer.
Kori considers factors such as:
- your primary skin concerns;
- what your skin looks and feels like at the appointment;
- skin sensitivity;
- hydration and barrier condition;
- visible pigmentation;
- texture and congestion;
- visible signs of aging;
- products you use at home;
- retinoids, acids, or prescription skincare you currently use;
- recent professional treatments; and
- the results you are hoping to achieve.
The booster is selected after looking at the skin—not before.
The Three Professional Facial Boosters Available at Athame Aesthetics
Athame Aesthetics uses three professional facial enhancers from IMAGE Skincare’s I ENHANCE line as booster add-ons.
Each has a different role within a customized facial.
1. I ENHANCE Kojic Acid Facial Enhancer
The I ENHANCE Kojic Acid Facial Enhancer gives Kori an option for clients whose treatment priorities include the appearance of uneven tone, visible discoloration, or a dull and uneven-looking complexion.
Kojic acid is an ingredient commonly used in skincare focused on pigmentation and skin tone.
That does not mean that every dark spot should automatically receive kojic acid. Pigmentation can develop for many different reasons, including sun exposure, previous inflammation, acne, hormones, injury, and individual pigment response.
Professional assessment matters because what appears to be one simple “dark spot” problem may not require the same treatment approach from one client to another.
Kori may consider the kojic booster when brightening and the appearance of more even-looking tone are important treatment goals and the client’s skin is appropriate for the treatment.
2. I ENHANCE Plant Stem Cell Facial Enhancer
The I ENHANCE Plant Stem Cell Facial Enhancer offers a different approach.
IMAGE Skincare describes its professional plant stem cell enhancer as a smoothing, boosting, and refining treatment enhancer.
At Athame Aesthetics, Kori may consider this option when the client’s skin goals and condition make a rejuvenating, refining approach more appropriate than the kojic acid or retinol option.
This is also an important place to clear up a common misunderstanding about the phrase plant stem cells.
Plant-derived stem cell ingredients used in cosmetics should not be confused with medical stem-cell therapy or human stem-cell procedures. In skincare, the terminology refers to plant-derived cosmetic ingredients incorporated into a topical formulation.
The purpose here is professional skincare—not regenerative medicine.
3. I ENHANCE Retinol Facial Enhancer
The I ENHANCE Retinol Facial Enhancer is another professional option, particularly when Kori determines that vitamin-A-based skincare aligns with the client’s skin condition and goals.
Retinol belongs to the retinoid family of vitamin-A derivatives.
Retinoids have substantial research behind their use for concerns involving visible photoaging, uneven texture, pigmentation, fine lines, and certain acne-related concerns.
But the fact that retinol is well known does not make it the default booster.
Retinol can also contribute to dryness, peeling, redness, or irritation, particularly when the skin is already sensitized or when a client is using other active skincare products.
At Athame Aesthetics, the retinol booster is considered on a case-by-case basis. It is not automatically added to an anti-aging facial.
If you already use retinol, retinal, adapalene, tretinoin, prescription acne medication, exfoliating acids, or other strong active products at home, tell Kori before your facial.
Is One Booster Stronger or Better Than the Others?
No—and that is the wrong way to think about them.
The purpose of having multiple boosters is not to create a good, better, and best hierarchy.
It is to give Kori different tools.
Consider three clients:
One is primarily concerned about uneven-looking pigmentation.
Another is focused on visible aging and texture and already tolerates retinoids well.
A third has different skin needs and would benefit more from a refining plant-based treatment approach.
Giving all three people the exact same booster simply because it is popular would defeat the purpose of a customized facial.
The best booster is the one that makes sense for your skin at that appointment.
Can I Request a Specific Booster?
You can absolutely tell Kori what interests you.
If you have been reading about kojic acid, plant stem cell skincare, or retinol, bring those questions to your appointment.
You can also request to add a professional booster to your facial because you would like the treatment to focus more heavily on results.
What Athame Aesthetics does not recommend is deciding in advance that a particular active ingredient must be used regardless of what your skin looks like.
Kori will discuss your goals, look at your skin, review relevant products or treatments, and determine which of the available boosters is appropriate.
Sometimes the answer may even be no booster today.
That is still customization.
Does Adding a Booster Make the Facial More Aggressive?
It makes the facial more targeted.
That is an important distinction.
The purpose is not to irritate the skin in order to prove that something happened.
Redness, peeling, tingling, or intensity should not be treated as a scoreboard for whether a facial was effective.
A results-focused facial should still take into account the client’s skin condition, tolerance, barrier health, and treatment history.
More aggressive does not automatically mean more effective.
Can a Facial Still Be Relaxing If I Add a Booster?
Yes.
Choosing a more results-focused facial does not mean the experience has to stop feeling like a facial.
The distinction is primarily in the treatment strategy.
Athame can still provide the personalized care and facial experience clients enjoy while Kori incorporates a booster to give the service a more targeted cosmetic objective.
For many clients, that combination is exactly what they are looking for: professional skin treatment without giving up the experience of being cared for.
What Results Should I Expect From a Booster Facial?
Expectations depend on the condition being treated, the booster selected, your skin, and whether the concern is something that can realistically change after one appointment or requires a longer-term strategy.
Some clients pursue professional facials for immediate improvements in how refreshed, hydrated, smooth, or radiant their skin appears.
Concerns such as visible photoaging, persistent pigmentation, acne, textural changes, or deeper signs of aging often require a more consistent approach.
That can include:
- appropriate home skincare;
- daily sun protection;
- periodic professional facials;
- booster treatments when appropriate;
- chemical peels when appropriate;
- microneedling for concerns better suited to collagen-induction therapy; or
- referral to a medical provider when a concern falls outside an esthetician’s scope.
Professional skincare works best when individual treatments are part of a strategy rather than being sold as one-session miracles.
Facial Booster vs. Chemical Peel: What’s the Difference?
A booster-enhanced facial should also not automatically be confused with a chemical peel.
Both can be results-focused, but they are different treatment categories.
A facial with a selected booster allows Kori to enhance and customize the facial around a particular concern.
A chemical peel uses a controlled chemical exfoliation protocol and may be more appropriate when a client’s skin and goals call for that type of treatment.
One is not universally better than the other.
Kori may recommend a customized facial with a booster, a chemical peel, microneedling, standard facial care, or a longer-term combination of treatments depending on what you are trying to improve.
Why Professional Skin Analysis Matters
Skincare marketing often encourages consumers to shop by ingredient:
Retinol for wrinkles.
Kojic acid for dark spots.
Stem cells for aging.
Real skin is more complicated than that.
A person’s visible concern is only one part of the decision.
Kori also has to consider what the skin can tolerate, what the client is already using, what other treatments have recently been performed, and whether the ingredient that sounds appropriate on paper actually makes sense for the skin in front of her.
This is one of the biggest differences between buying another skincare product and receiving a treatment from an experienced Master Esthetician.
Professional customization isn’t about adding more products. It’s about making better decisions about which products belong in the treatment.
The Bottom Line: Should You Add a Booster to Your Facial?
If you primarily want relaxation, maintenance, hydration, and a refreshed complexion, you may not need to add anything at all.
If you want your facial to take a more targeted, results-focused direction, ask Kori about adding a professional booster.
Athame Aesthetics currently offers three IMAGE Skincare I ENHANCE booster options:
- Kojic Acid Facial Enhancer
- Plant Stem Cell Facial Enhancer
- Retinol Facial Enhancer
Which one is used depends on your skin.
You choose whether you want to upgrade your facial. Kori helps determine how that upgrade should be used.
That is what turns a booster from simply another ingredient into part of a professionally customized treatment.
Looking for a Customized Facial in Utah?
If you’re researching professional facials, facial boosters, brightening treatments, retinol facials, kojic acid, plant stem cell skincare, uneven skin tone, texture, or more results-focused skincare in Utah, schedule your facial with Kori at Athame Aesthetics in Murray.
Tell Kori what you want to improve and what products you currently use at home. If you would like to move your facial from primarily pampering toward a more clinical, results-focused treatment, ask whether a professional booster add-on is appropriate for your skin.
Because a customized facial isn’t about using every active ingredient available.
It’s about knowing which one your skin needs today.
